SCSU to kick off student center renovations

South Carolina State University will conduct a project kickoff for the renovation of the 69-year-old Kirkland W. Green Student Center at 10:15 a.m. Thursday on the Student Plaza.

The public is invited.

The $4.4 million state-funded project includes upgrades to lighting, HVAC, windows, doors, life safety, and all finishes, as well as a new facade on the plaza side of the center and a video board on the Geathers Street side.

In a separate project that will follow the remodeling job, the state has allotted S.C. State an additional $20 million for a 30,000-square-foot upgrade to the center, giving the university 62,000 square feet of modern space specifically for student life activities.

The student center was erected in 1954.
