South Carolina State University has finalized contract details for new head football coach Chennis Berry. The university’s board approved Berry’s contract in a meeting Friday morning.

S.C. State’s Board of Trustees approved the contract in a unanimous vote after a 45-minute executive session during a virtual meeting.

Contract details had not been made publicly available as of Friday evening. University spokesperson Sam Watson said the school’s legal team will not release details before the contract has been signed, a process that could take days.

Berry took over the team from long-time coach Buddy Pough on Dec. 12. Pough spent 22 seasons leading the Bulldog program, amassing 151 wins. He announced his retirement in August 2023.

Berry has already hired most of his coaching staff and overseen his first signing class at the school, The T&D has previously reported.
